Community Furniture Store is a local charity that is dedicated to helping local communities fight furniture and digital poverty. We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed and reliable Operations Coordinator to join our team to help make a real difference to the people of North Yorkshire.

About the role

Taking direction from the Operations Manager, you will oversee the logistical operations of the store, ensuring that everything is running smoothly, and the shop floor is presented to a high standard. You’ll also be the point of call for our volunteers, introducing mentoring and supporting them to get the most out of their time volunteering with us.

You’ll use your initiative, enthusiasm and commitment to fighting furniture poverty to help make a real difference to the people of York and surrounding areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support all logistical aspects of the smooth running of store including stock management, store displays, pricing, processing customer sales, arranging delivery and collections and dealing with customer queries
  • Lead on store presentation and merchandising to ensure the store is a welcoming, attractive and safe place for customers, staff and volunteers
  • Deliver and role model exceptional customer service and implement creative ways of continually improving the customer journey  
  • Support our volunteers by introducing them to the store team, carrying out first day instructions and assigning appropriate tasks and ensuring they are getting the most out of their time with us
  • Support Operations Manager with daily Health and Safety tasks and checks assigned to you
  • Support the wider team, sharing knowledge and offering guidance to build the best team possible
  • Undertake financial procedures including cashing up the till and banking cash
  • Willingness to take on any additional, related tasks as required by the Operations Manager to support the running of the store. This may include driving, supporting van and warehouse teams and deputising for the Operations Manager.

What we’d like from you:

  • Ability to lift and move furniture with the team (we will provide training) 
  • DBS check (we will arrange this)
  • Commitment to our organisational values and mission to support people experiencing poverty
  • Proven communication, organisational and administrative skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Confidence using IT systems
  • Full clean driving license and willingness to drive the CFS vans from time to time (desirable but not essential)

  • Sociable working hours between 8.30am and 4.30pm in a friendly and supportive team
  • Consistent working pattern, 4-5 days a week including Saturdays
  • Starting 28 days paid holiday inclusive of bank holidays increasing with length of employment
